What Should I Eat to Help My Seasonal Affective Disorder – SAD Disorder

What Should I Eat to Help Seasonal Affective Disorder – SAD Disorder

A great place to start for Help our Seasonal Affective Disorder is to AVOID Simple Carbohydrates. I even avoid eating too many Carbohydrates during the bad SAD Disorder months. I used to be a Carbohydrate Addict. I ate WAY too many carbs.

I find that curing a Carbohydrate Addiction is tougher than a Sugar Addiction or Cravings. For me, if I totally avoid Sweets for 3 Days, I no longer crave Sweets. With Bread type Carbohydrates, it literally took me months to stop the cravings and to this day, 10 years later, I still don’t have the intense desire to eat bread, pretzels etc… like I used to.

How I cured the Carbohydrate Addiction.
While seeking advice from an Integrative Natural Expert, I went on one of the toughest cleanses of my life. I can’t even necessarily recommend this form of cleansing because it was long and difficult to follow but I was motivated to get well. It did indeed cure my carb addiction however which I do believe eating too many carbohydrates is not a good idea for anyone let alone someone suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder – SAD Disorder.

I ate ONLY Fruits and Vegetables for a couple of months with a slow integration of lean protein such as chicken. When I was allowed any carbohydrates after 2 months, it was Gluten Free ONLY. After about 4 months, I finally didn’t have the intense Carb cravings.

During this time I also went on a couple of Liver Cleanses.

It may be easier for you to just slowly lessen the amount of Flour Based Carbohydrates. The reason I say Flour Based is because I am a firm believer that Fruits in our Daily Diet is Good For Us. God made this amazing food for us to enjoy and I for one thoroughly enjoy my Fruit and it is one of the best foods to Stop Constipation for me especially during Seasonal Affective Depression Periods.

Consult Your Doctor
If you have Health conditions that require a special diet, please consult your doctor before starting any cleanse or deciding on what to eat to help your SAD Disorder.

Eating a Well Balanced Diet, low in Simple Carbohydrates is best for Seasonal Affective Disorder. We CRAVE Carbohydrates during this time and tend to gain weight. I have gained weight during the winter and I have lost weight during the winter. We REALLY have to decide to be careful not to gain weight during the Seasonal Affective Disorder time period.

Here is a typical general eating plan for me. I don’t even mind eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch.

Tea with Lemon, Honey Stevia
1 ounce Raw Nuts – Almonds, Walnuts, Brazil Nuts are some Suggestions
1/2 ounce Dried Cranberries

1/2 Cup Low Fat or Fat Free Cottage Cheese
Slice of Pineapple if desired

Fiber Packed Fruit Smoothie see recipe link below

Carrots – Raw or Cooked Unlimited amount of Vegetables any part of the day
Gently boil a 1 pound package of baby carrots in 2 quarts of water with 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp salt. You want the carrots to be a bit crisp and not over cooked and soft.
(I love snacking on Carrots that are slightly boiled in Sugar and Salt Water, this is better than candy and a way to help you get off of the candy and sugar habit)

4 Ounces Chicken
1 Cup Steamed Brocolli (don’t over cooke, keep a bit crisp to keep as much nutrition as possible)
1/2 Cup Brown and Wild Rice (flavor with dried onions, parsley and your favorite seasoning)

Evening Desert Snack

My Berry Yogurt Dessert
1/2 Fat Free Yogurt Plain
1/2 Cup Frozen Blackberries, blueberries, triple berries etc…
1/2 tsp Vanilla
A Few drops of Stevia or to taste (3 to 7 drops)

If you are looking to Lose a bit more Weight, you can eliminate the Rice and One of the Snacks. Use only Stevia in your tea also instead of any honey.

Eat Unlimited Amount of Vegetables (see exceptions)
Eat as many Vegetable as you like. (Please Limit high Carbohydrate Vegetables such as Peas, Corn, Potatoes etc…) Unlimited amount of Cruciferous Vegetables (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage etc…) will help you to lose weight without adding many calories.
